JOB DESCRIPTION: 

The Public Housing Assistant functions under the Executive Director and is responsible for assisting in the day-to-day operations of the front office and supporting the Public Housing Program.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manages relationships with the residents and public by resolving resident concerns, answering questions regarding the waiting list and alternative housing solutions.
    • Processes rent checks and balances checks to system reports.
  • Performs housekeeping inspections and communicate with residents on the outcome.  Understand and implement HUD’s INSPIRE inspection protocol.
  • Writes letters to residents and waiting list applicants.
  • Maintains and organizes the waiting list applicant documentation.
  • Schedules vendors and maintains a good working relationship.
  • Submits work orders.
  • Attends and ensures Resident Advisory Board meetings are run efficiently.
  • Organizes the files and the retention process.
  • Other projects and duties as assigned.

REQUIRED SKILLS:

  • Some knowledge of housing and community development programs is desired.
  • Ability to quickly learn and interpret regulations, policies and procedures.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to speak Spanish is preferred.
  • Working knowledge of Word and Excel.
  • Ability to perform simple mathematical functions with accuracy.
  • Excellent customer service skills, ability to work with various personalities.
  • Ability to initiate own work projects and to work independently.
  • Work in a team environment, contribute as a team member and treat co-workers and customers with respect.
  • Must respect privacy and confidentiality of client information.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

A combination of the following education or experience:

  • Associate degree or greater in public administration or related field
  • Experience in housing, property management, or social services

Must have a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
