THA ABOVE AND BEYOND AWARD
In 2011, Texas Housing Association initiated the “Above and Beyond” award for HUD (Housing and Urban Development) field office staff. The intent of the award is two-fold: to recognize staff who have gone the extra mile to help the PHAs in their jurisdiction and to provide an incentive to all HUD reps to strive for a more cooperative relationship with their PHAs. Housing authorities have an opportunity every year to submit nominations. Then the nominees from all three Texas offices are put on an email ballot that goes out to the entire THA membership for a vote. PHAs vote only for the reps from their own field office.
So often HUD representatives take a “gotcha” approach to working with PHAs rather than a truly helpful one. This award allows recognition and appreciation for those who have demonstrated a real interest in and dedication to assisting PHAs with their highly complex jobs.
